Classic Pesto

Pesto sauce can transform any simple dish to make it appetizing. Home-made pesto is much better than buying from a super market because you are guaranteed of the quality of its ingredients. The main ingredients used in pesto include garlic, olive oil, cheese such as parmesan and fresh basil leaves.

It is a very simple recipe which is ideal for busy week nights.

Ingredients: 
2 cups basil leaves
1 cup olive oil
1/2 cup pine nuts
3 garlic cloves
1 cup Parmesan cheese
Directions: 
Add pine nuts, Parmesan cheese, basil leaves, and garlic cloves in a food processor.
Process the ingredients until blended into a slightly coarse paste.
With the food processor running, slowly add the olive oil until blended well. Use a spatula to scoop the mixture into a bowl. Serve.

Ways to use this Classic Pesto

This classic pesto goes well as a bread spread, dip for bread or sauce for chicken and pasta. It is a delightful summer treat.

Mix with pasta: You can serve pesto with pasta. In a large bowl, mix cooked pasta with pesto and stir to mix properly. Serve right away.

Top your breakfast: It is a great ingredient that can be used in many dishes. You can add it on your eggs to achieve the taste of herbs.

Pizza sauce: Use this classic pesto instead of tomato sauce on your pizza. It will add an entirely different flavor so use it sparingly.

Spread on Bread: Tired of putting mayonnaise every day in your bread? It is time to replace it with pesto. You can also serve it with bagels.

Salad Dressings: Pesto makes a great dressing for salad. You can toss the dressing with salads.
